Spring Dumpling House - NYC
Have you ever just plain been in the mood for dumplings and potstickers, with no apparent explanation? Have you ever been in the mood for such, and not wanted to frequent a Chinese restaurant to order the single appetizer item that covered it? Well dumpling and noodle houses have popped up all over, but I have found one in the heart of midtown that I implore you to try.I always wonder how a place whose average price point is about $7 affords space between 5th and 6th Avenues in the world's greatest city. My working theory is that they don't afford it, which means you need to order as many dumplings and potstickers from the Spring Dumpling House on 38th Street as you can before they economically rationalize. My wife and I had lunch there last Saturday and we came in with eyes much bigger than our stomachs (and I'm not at a marathon waist size, if you catch my drift). We started off with a few tapas including a sausage platterAnd then delved into the pork belly sliders:The sliders could have warranted multiple re-orders I was so in love. The sausage platter was tasty but average. But then, the heart of the matter began:The shrimp and scallion dumplings were a phenomenal start to the parade. Round 2 was my favorite (spicy pork with jalapeño seeds).
The main event was the pot pourri of potstickers, done at the chef's discretion:
My favorite was the chicken/mushroom, but the ginger pork was fantastic. All of them were basically flawless in composition and bursting with flavors.I wouldn't have minded seeing a few more sauces in the service delivery, and the orders came out a little too quickly for my liking (on top of each other), but Spring Dumpling House on 38th between 5th and 6th is a treat I won't soon forget.
